Stairon and Stera Technologies have agreed on a business transaction in which the machining and heat treatment operations of Stairon’s Itäharju unit in Turku will be transferred to Stera. The transaction supports the strategic goals of both companies: Stairon will concentrate its production at its Pansio plant and channel resources into serving its growing existing customer accounts, while Stera will strengthen its machining capacity and expand its service offering to meet increasing customer demand.
Industrial investments, advances in energy solutions, and the needs of the defense industry are creating opportunities for domestic manufacturing. Both companies aim to respond to this development by reinforcing their strategic focal points and ensuring that customers receive the services they require reliably in the future.
Stera Strengthens Growth and Expands Machining Services
For Stera, which has experienced exceptionally strong growth in recent years, the business transaction offers an opportunity to strengthen its heavy machining capacity and broaden the range of services offered to industrial clients. The production equipment in Itäharju addresses a capacity need identified by Stera and supports the company’s growth strategy.
During the current year, Stera’s revenue has grown by nearly 20%, and its workforce has expanded by approximately 150 new employees. The transaction supports sustained growth and helps meet the ever-increasing requirements of industrial customers.
”We have been looking for opportunities to reinforce our heavy machining offering for quite some time. The transaction with Stairon provides a solid solution: we gain access to production capacity and expertise that complement our service offering and help us respond to growing customer demand. At the same time, we can build long-term cooperation with Stairon,” says Jussi Ohlsson, CEO of Stera.
The transaction strengthens Stera’s ability to offer customers broader comprehensive service packages, greater flexibility, and seamless delivery processes. The company will be able to leverage the existing machinery base and expertise as part of its expanding business.
Stairon Focuses Operations and Invests in Growing Accounts
Stairon’s strategy centers on consolidating its operations at its modular factory in Pansio and developing a single-factory operating model. Through this consolidation, the company targets smoother production, improved competitiveness, and an even stronger capacity to serve existing clients.
Stairon’s demand outlook is strong, particularly in manufacturing related to the energy sector and defense industry needs. Development projects across the mining and forest industries also create opportunities. For instance, solutions related to data center power generation and large industrial engines require demanding components where Stairon’s expertise plays a significant role.
”We have been purposefully developing our operations toward a single-factory model. In Pansio, we can utilize our production resources efficiently and serve our existing customers even better as their needs grow. We want to direct our expertise and capacity toward the services and customer accounts where we can generate the greatest added value,” says Timo Kylä-Nikkilä, CEO of Stairon.
The transfer of the Itäharju machining and heat treatment business to Stera is a natural continuation of this development. At the same time, the production capacity and expertise transition into an environment where there is growing demand for them.
Cooperation Secures Continuity and Builds a Foundation for Future Growth
The objective of the transaction is to utilize production capacity as effectively as possible, preserve expertise, and ensure service continuity. In connection with the agreement, alongside modern machinery, four employees will transfer to Stera with continuity of their existing terms of employment. Stairon and Stera have also agreed on a multi-year partnership.
Under this arrangement, both companies focus on their respective core strengths: Stairon will develop its operations in Pansio and cater to the needs of its growing customer accounts, while Stera expands its offering by strengthening its machining services. The transaction thus establishes favorable conditions for both companies’ competitiveness and long-term development.
The deal exemplifies how strategic decisions can identify new, growth-oriented purposes for production capacity while forging stronger collaboration across the domestic industrial sector.
