How did Stairon become Stairon?
Then and now – but always with solid expertise and raw steel at the core.
We combine intelligent manufacturing expertise with high-level welding competence – skills that have been built over decades, rooted in the strong industrial heritage of Turku.
Stairon was established in 2009 when the business of Metso Paper Turku Works was transferred, through an MBO, to Stairon Oy founded by the operating management. Over the years, the company has been developed with determination, and in 2019 the ownership base was renewed through an entrepreneurial generation shift to support growth and investment. At that time, the company’s CEO and shareholder, Timo Kylä-Nikkilä, together with Canelco Oy, founded Stairon Group Oy, to which Stairon was transferred through a completed share acquisition.
Two local cornerstones of industrial engineering expertise
At the Pansio factory, a strong manufacturing tradition was developed starting in 1964 under Valmet, and later under Metso Paper. Equally long-standing roots can be found in Turku, where Veljet Suominen’s engineering workshop began operations as early as 1920, eventually evolving—through the Mesera Group—into the independent company Mesekon Oy in 2005.
Both companies have followed an owner-driven development path in which customer needs, quality and specialised expertise have guided growth and progress. A natural next step came in 2024, when Mesekon joined the Stairon Group through an acquisition, and ultimately fully merged into Stairon Oy in 2025. Through these integrations, our customers now benefit from a wider service offering, more agile production capabilities and deep specialist know-how under a single brand.
